Frequently asked questions

What is an Allikoja sauna house?

An Allikoja sauna house is a free-standing, full-size sauna building that differs from a typical garden sauna thanks to its proper insulation. Unlike a round barrel sauna, the sauna house has straight lines and a spacious interior where the entire floor area can be used comfortably.

Do I need a building permit to install a sauna house?

If the sauna house's building footprint is under 20m², no building permit is needed. More detailed rules, including building notice requirements and local differences, are summarised in our separate article on sauna houses and building permits.

Is a sauna house suitable for year-round use?

Yes. If the floor, walls and ceiling are fully insulated, the sauna house is suitable for enjoyable sauna sessions all year round, not just in summer. The most effective solution is closed-cell PUR foam, which keeps the heat in even on cold winter evenings. Read more about why an insulated solution is worth choosing in our article on the benefits of an insulated sauna house.

How big should a sauna house be?

The most common and practical size is around 18–20m², as it fits a steam room, washing facilities and a spacious front room. On a smaller plot, a rectangular design is usually more space-efficient than a round sauna. You'll find more advice on choosing the right size and other selection criteria in our article how to choose the right sauna house.

Why choose an Allikoja sauna house?

An Allikoja sauna house is a handcrafted sauna made in Estonia that offers complete comfort all year round. Efficient PUR insulation keeps it warm even in harsh winter frost, the open fire of the glass-door stove creates a cosy atmosphere in the front room, and the built-in shower and water heater ensure everything you need to fully relax is right there.
